Large Duffel Bag

Lesportsac large or extra-large weekender as a carry-on bag?
I want to buy a LeSport sac (duffel) bag to carry on the flight. The airline says the total size of the bag cannot exceed 45 inches, this includes height, depth, and length for a suitcase.
I need a bag to hold five days of clothes and two pairs of shoes if possible. The large weekender is a total of 45 inches and the extra large is 52. both are just flexible material, no hard edges like a suitcase.
Does anyone know if I could get away with bringing the extra large on board? If I did not fill it all the way, it could be stuffed or rolled into the overhead bin.. Or has anyone used the large weekender for a 5 day trip and still had room in the bag? I have seen people bring really big duffel bags on board, but that was before the airlines started charging luggage fees.
Yes you can. I see them used frequently. They are attractive too!
